ChatGPT Automator Privacy Policy
Effective date: July 18, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes what information the ChatGPT Automator browser extension ("the extension", "we") collects, how it is used, who it is shared with, and the choices you have. ChatGPT Automator is an independent product and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by OpenAI. "ChatGPT" is a trademark of its respective owner.
Summary. Your prompts, images, and generated content are processed locally in your browser and sent only to ChatGPT at your direction — we never receive them on our servers. We collect the minimum account, licensing, and usage-count data needed to operate sign-in, free trials, and daily quotas. We do not sell personal data, we do not show ads, and we do not use your data for any purpose unrelated to the extension's features.
1. Information we collect
1.1 Account information (Firebase Authentication)
- When you sign in with Google or with email and password, we receive your email address, display name, profile photo URL, and a Firebase user ID (UID).
- We never see or store your Google password. Email/password credentials are handled by Firebase Authentication (Google LLC); we never store your password ourselves.
1.2 Licensing and anti-abuse data
- A random installation identifier (a generated UUID, not derived from your hardware) stored in the browser's extension storage. It links one installation to one account to prevent unlimited free-trial abuse.
- Membership and trial state: plan tier and trial start/expiry timestamps.
- Daily usage counts: the number of prompt runs per UTC day for free-plan quota enforcement. We count runs; we do not store what the prompts said.
1.3 Data that stays on your device
- Your prompt queue, extension settings, reference images/assets you attach, and activity logs are stored locally in your browser's extension storage.
- Activity logs are kept for a short period (currently up to one hour) and only on your device.
- Prompts and attachments are sent directly from your browser to chatgpt.com only when you run them, under your own ChatGPT account and OpenAI's terms and privacy policy. They are never transmitted to our servers.
1.4 What we do not collect
- No browsing history, keystrokes, or content from sites other than the ChatGPT pages the extension operates on.
- No prompt text or generated content on our servers.
- No payment or financial information.
- No advertising identifiers, and no data is sold or shared for advertising.
2. How we use information
- Account information — sign-in, showing your profile in the panel, support.
- Installation identifier — preventing repeated free-trial abuse; one free plan per installation.
- Membership, trial, and usage counts — enforcing trials, daily quotas, and feature access.
We use this data only to provide and improve the extension's user-facing features, for security and abuse prevention, and to comply with law. We do not use it for advertising, creditworthiness, or lending decisions, and we do not transfer it to third parties except as described below. This complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
3. Storage and sharing
- Server-side data is stored in Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Functions), operated by Google LLC.
- Prompts you run are exchanged directly between your browser and chatgpt.com under OpenAI's privacy policy.
- We do not sell personal data and do not share it with data brokers or advertisers. Disclosure may occur if required by law.
4. Data retention
- Account and licensing records are kept while your account exists and as required for security and fraud prevention.
- Local logs are kept up to one hour; other local data remains until you clear it or uninstall the extension.
5. Your choices and rights
- Sign out at any time from the extension panel.
- Uninstall the extension to remove all locally stored data.
- Request access or deletion of your server-side account data by contacting us (below). We will delete account data that we are not legally required to keep.
6. Browser permissions
The extension requests only the permissions needed for its features: access to ChatGPT pages to run your prompts; storage for your queue and settings; downloads for saving generated media you request; alarms for scheduling queue work; identity for Google sign-in; and network access to Firebase endpoints for sign-in and licensing.
7. Children
The extension is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the extension evolves. Material changes will be reflected by a new effective date on this page, and, where appropriate, an in-extension notice.
